Now can you imagine anyone paying you good money for your photographs? No?
You know what I had some old photos laying around that I took from a trip to Turkey and thought that it could be possible to make a little money from them.
At first I was not sure how to go about this venture of selling these photos so I put it to rest on the back burner for a while.
Anyway a while later when I was researching another topic I came across micro stock sites.
This is what I learned.
Micro stock sites are amazing and quite simple to use. They are free to join and then all you do is upload a few sample images.
After your samples pass the initial review you can start uploading your digital photos and start making money.
Right. Let’s take a closer look at how this works:
What is Stock Photography?
“Stock photography is the supply of photographs, which are often licensed for specific uses. The stock photo industry, which began to gain hole in the 1920’s, has established models including tradition macrostock photography, midstock photography and microstock photography.”
Imagine that some is creating a website about interior design and to further enhance their website they want to add images.
Rather than hiring a photographer and sending them on assignment to all these wonderful places, and set up photo shoots, which can turn out to be very expensive for a small business owner, they decide to use stock photos, i.e. images that are readily available.
Usually stock image are far cheaper that “bespoke” photos. So our website designer would visit one of the established stock image sites and take a look around a little until they find some images they like and is related to their niche and after paying for the image they will then add it to their website.
Stock photo images can vary depending on what you are going to use it for.

Micro Stock Websites vs Traditional Agencies
With a traditional images agency a designer can spend between $500 and $1,000 for half a
dozen images that are relevant to a specific niche and that is small change if you are a Fortune 500 company, but
what if you are working with a limited budget and or working on designing a website for a friend or non-profit organisation?
This is where micro stock agencies come in handy. Micro stock websites have mixed up the traditional market for stock photography and over the past few years.
Now steps in the micro stock images and instead of charging $100 or more for a photo and limiting the people that could actually afford to pay those prices you can now get high quality images for less than $10 dollars and in many cases as low as $1. Now that price can fit into many budgets.
This means that for providing the images you can make around 25% to 50% per image this is not very attractive for professional photographers but for an amateur, you can make decent money that could at least help with developing your hobby.
Keep in mind that I am talking about the internet and some images can be downloaded in volume and this means that your images could be downloaded in the hundreds and possible thousands and the amount that you could earn could develop into a tidy sum.
Oh and the more images you add to the photo stock websites the more opportunities to increase your earnings.
How to Get Started with Micro Stock Images Agencies
Most micro stock agencies have the same requirements so all you will need to get started is a four Megapixel camera but the more the better, but for starters between 6 and 8 Megapixels would be a great start.
Your images should use proper keywords and should be sorted into subjects. For example, good selling images are business or healthcare related or images that illustrate a concept or an emotion such as love, sadness, frustration, anger, relationships and specific career and so on.

Making Money With Your Digital Camera
Along with adding your images to micro stock images websites you could consider creating your own website and this will open up a world of opportunities for you.
It does not matter if you have no experience with building your own website because this is where I will be glad to help you.
So how can you make money with your camera?
By owning your own photography website and or photo blog you will have total control of your images.
You will have your choice of niches.
Think about what you love to take photos of such as:
- Food
- Trees
- Flowers
- Weddings
- Social events
- Festivals
- Concerts
- Cultural events
A combination, the choice is yours to make.
Using Amazon Influencer Program and or Amazon Associates Program with your Photography
You could also join Amazon Influencer Program which is free to join but you will have to wait for approval.
With this program you will be able to recommend digital camera and camera accessories to your target audience on your website.
Just as I have done within the words digital camera and camera accessories.
You could also apply for Amazon Associate Program and recommend from there too. Like the Influencer Program it is free to join and you will have to wait for approval.
I would suggest getting started with your website and build your content and then apply for the Amazon programs but I can help you with all that.
Zazzle for Your Photography
You may also be interested in adding your images to Zazzle which is a print on demand website and is free to join. You can find out more from my Zazzle review here.
I like Zazzle because it is really easy to use and they are always adding new products that you can add your images to.
When I first started with Zazzle I found that I spent a lot of time there playing around with different products.
Another great thing with Zazzle is that you can set your own royalty rate for your images. And like micro stock images your images can be sold numerous times on many of their products.
