It could be that the one you are using is just not cutting it anymore for you.
Being a writer working online can be very rewarding but it can also be a pain in the neck if you are working for the wrong company.
Well this is why I am writing this review, to help you out.
First I want to congratulate you for doing your research because this is the best way to find the right fit for you.
I have the truth about this company and I am going to lay it all out in this review and when I say the truth it may not be all good news but it will be the truth all the same because I owe you that much.
What is HireWriters?
HireWriters is a content mill which means that it is a service that acts as in-between of clients who want to get written content for their website and freelance writers.
Greg Meyers is the CEO of Wordplyment, LLC which is a content management company that is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA and they operate HireWriters.
How Does HireWriters Work?
I am going to mainly focus on how HireWriters work for writers.
Once your complete the sign-up form and you get approved you will be able to pick and write articles available that are posted on the jobs board.
Each task that is posted will have its own set of instruction that you will follow whilst you are writing the content.
The client will give instructions such as:
- Job title
- Keywords
- Request a certain writer’s skill level
The system will then price the task and post it on the Jobs Board.
Writers will only be able to pick jobs that are for your skill level and if the writer’s skill levels are equal or greater than what is required by the client.
At the time of this review there were four skill levels:
- Beginner – Everyone starts here
- General – Completed at least 3 jobs, with an average of 4 star ratings and an on time rating of 73%.
- Skilled – Completed at least 6 jobs, with an average of 4.2 star ratings and an on time rating of 82%.
- Expert – Completed at least 15 jobs, with an average of 4,6 star ratings and an on time rating of 82%.
The clients will determine how fast your rankings will rise, because they are allowed to rate your submission each they approve or reject your content. Your ratings will be an average of these ratings.
Writers will have 24 hours to complete a 500 words or more article and 48 hours for any article that is above 2,000 words.
Once you have completed your work you can submit the job to the client and wait for their feedback.
Clients can then either accept your work as it is or they can request a revision or they can fire you.
If the client does not respond within 72 hours from the time that you submitted the article, HireWriters will automatically approve the article but this article will not gain a rating.
If you are not comfortable working under these rules and regulations then may be your should seriously consider becoming an independent writer.

Writers Pay Rates for HireWriters
Just a note that this is the information on payment rates at the time of writing this review. This is just to give you a better idea of earnings.
- Beginner – $2.25 for 300 to 500 word article
- Expert – $10.66
If you are a talented writer you could write more than 10 to 20 of these articles a day or more and this will increase your earnings.
Also the client can also add a tip if they wish.

How Much Money Can You Make With HireWriters
Now how much you could make will depend on the availability of the jobs along with your writing skills and the quality of the content you produce.
If you are a skilled writer on HireWriters you could be looking at possible earning say $100 a week and this if you get constant writing jobs.

When and How Does HireWriters Pay Writers?
HireWriters pay every Friday when you earn $10 or more and payments are made through PayPal, so this means that you will need to have a valid PayPal account to get paid.
HireWriters Sign-Up Process
HireWriters currently at the time of writing this review accept writers from the following countries:

Signing up is pretty simple as you can see from the screenshot below. All you will need:
- Email address
- Name
- Country
You will be asked to take an English test.
If you pass this test, they will then ask you to write sample content based on a subject that they will provide. You will have 15 minutes to complete the sample content.
When you have completed you can then submit your application for review.
They will normally get back to you within 48 hours.
If you are approved they will then let you know how you can get started.
If you are not contacted within 48 hours, you can take it as you did not get approved.
If for any reason HireWriters rejects you or your country is not listed, it is not the end of the World. You can always join my number one recommendation and learn how to start your own online business as an independent writer or you can learn how you can write for your own clients without the need of joining a content mill that is going to dictate if you are good enough or not.
HireWriters Complaints
Right I want to start off by saying that no company is perfect so I am going to keep it real so that you can make a more informed decision for yourself if you think that this company if worth your investment of time or not. I am going to share a couple of complaints that I think you need to know.
1. You Can Easily Get Banned
HireWriters have some pretty strict rules that you have to follow and whilst some of then are written others can come as a bit of a shock when you log into your account and find out that you have been banned.
Example, you are not allowed to operate two accounts from the same computer.
An unwritten rule is that you have to have a PayPal account in your name.
Some writers say that they only found out about these rules when HireWriters suspended their accounts. The sad thing is that once that happens you can say goodbye to your unpaid earnings and your account.
This is why if you are a serious writer or just wanting to get started you don’t have to worry about having your account banned or losing money when you are your own boss.
Consider getting started online with my number one recommendation and learn how you can become an independent writer or blogger. Give it some serious thought because honestly it is a game changer.
2. Some Clients Don’t Play Fair Game
Let me start this by saying most clients are great, they will only request revisions when necessary and approve work quickly, they will even send you tips.
But you can get some that are complete nightmares. Some will want to milk the system by requesting more words than they are prepared to pay for. Others will give you’re a bad rating for no good reason.
These clients can effect your ratings and this will result in your delay to the expert level and this does not matter how good a writer you are.
No Better Business Bureau Rating
HireWriters is not listed with the Better Business Bureau but in saying that their parent company is listed but at the time of writing this review it was not rated yet.
It is up to you know this information if this is a deal breaker.
HireWriters is NOT Income Life Changer
Working with HireWriters is not the kind of work that you can give up your day job and make it a full time living because job can be seasonal. For example in the time of Lockdown they are currently not taking on anymore writers and this means to me that they are not getting as many requests for content for the writers they currently have.
At times if you are a skilled writer you may have to take a pay cut and take on beginner level jobs just to make ends meet. Sometimes this can go on for months and if you are not getting clients that are sending you jobs directly you may find it hard to make a decent income.
Is HireWriters Worth It?
I would like to state at this point that HireWriters if a legitimate company with its challenges like any other content mill company out there.
You can easily make it to the expert level if you are consistent and the clients are above board. But like I mentioned earlier there are some unwritten rules that you may or may not know that could get your account suspended and your hard-earned cash lost.
Just something to think about.
You may feel more comfortable working as a freelance writer but take this under consideration that being an independent writer will give you the freedom to earn what you deserve. You will be able to build your own portfolio that you will be able to showcase your work and be able to choose the clients you work with.
