Today I want to start by asking you a question.
What is your excuse for not starting your very own online business?
Well let’s say that there is something that you really want to do.
It can be something as little as taking an hour a week to start a hobby or something big like moving to another part of the country or to another country altogether.
In this case starting your own online business.
The main point is that you have been telling yourself you want to do for a good period of time but haven’t got round to finding the time to do it.
It’s a Pattern right?
To the point that every time you start telling yourself “I’d really love to start my online business” you flow right into a list of excuses almost on autopilot “but I can’t take time away from my family, and or my job” or “it’s a silly idea because I’m too old to start” and so on.
You may even be thinking that you don’t make excuses and you have very valid reasons for why you “Can’t” do it right now, even though you really would love to.
After all, excuses are what irresponsible type of people do and that’s not you.
Well, if there is something that you say you want to do, but continually find reasons why you are unable to do it, there are only two possible explanations for doing so.
- You do not really want to do what you say you want to do, and you are only saying it out of habit or because you think you should be doing it.
- You really do want to do what you say you want to do, but it is a little risky and it will force you out of your comfort zone or it in doing so will upset someone you care about.
If you answer is yes to scenario one, then you can stop telling yourself that it is something that you want to and let it go.
Bring closure to it and move on then this will free up your mind and give you some emotional space to a change to move onto something that you really want to.
Now if you answered yes to scenario two, then you are more than likely using an excuse to that keeps you from starting your online business but allows you to hang onto your desire but at the same time providing you with logical reasons why you can’t do it, in doing so keeping you safe but deep down still wanting to pursue it.
What Do Excuses Sound Like?
So what do excuses sound like? I have added some of the most common ones just in case you haven’t listened to the bucket load that you are carrying around in your head every single day.
- I’m too dumb
- I’m too smart
- No one will like or love me online
- I am not good enough
- I don’t have enough money to start an online business
- I haven’t got time
- No one can have it all
- I don’t know where to start
- I don’t know anyone that could help me
Do any of these sound familiar?
We wouldn’t use excuses if they didn’t serve us in some way.
It can be really hard to admit that but keeping it real here, why else would we use them?
Benefits of Excuses
If you want to think that there are benefits of excuses then are a few that I have found. I said earlier I want to keep this real, so these are a few benefits that I have found. Lol.
Finding excuses will allow you to be right about yourself. Example: “See I told you I wasn’t good enough.”
It will keep you safe in your comfort zone.
It will keep you stuck and this way you can continue to complain and have pity parties with others.
It’s familiar ground.
After all, it is much easier to go with the flow and stay with the masses instead of entering into the area of the tip 5% to 10% of those who are successful in their online businesses.
It is also much easier to just turn down the volume on the things that you truly desire, especially when it might be a little different that the majority of people we come into contact with socially.
Well at least it seems easier, but remember this, it will come at a cost and that cost.
The Cost of Not Following Your Desires
These are a few costs that can come with not following your dreams and desires.
- Lack of fulfilment
- Depression
- Losing that spark in your life
- A feeling of loss
- Anxiety
- Healthy Issues
Assessing Your Fears and Concerns
Great you are still reading, this tell me that you really want to pursue your journey in creating your own online business.
If this is the case then you really need to look at your excuses and take the time to identify what they payoff will for not starting your own online business.
1. Make a list of all the “bad” things that you fear might happen if you were to take a chance at starting your own online business.
Be honest with yourself and cover all the areas including the absolute worst case scenario you can imagine. Example: you don’t know where to get started. You feel that you are not good enough. You feel that no one will like what you do online.
2. Look at your list and rate it say from 1 to 5. 1 (not likely), 5 (absolutely likely).
What you will find is that it is pretty unlikely that something terrible is going to happen if your start your own online business.
If something unexpected or unwanted occurs, you can trust that you will find a way to handle it.

After making your list, I am hoping that you are starting to see a clearer picture. And start believing more in yourself.
