In our society today it often make the mistake of associating success with wealth.
It is not surprising that we do this because it is easier to measure it.
When we can measure something, we can then rate how we are doing compared with everyone else.
We are competitive by nature and love to compete with each other, such as
But aside from providing a handy way to “keep up with the Jones” or today “keep up with the Kardashians’” LOL
What does associating success with wealthy really do?
It is commonly accepted that money doesn’t buy happiness.
If someone is wealthy and unhappy, can he or she successful?
Of course not!
This is because success is less about money than it is about worth.
A successful person is one who looks at what he or she contributes and is satisfied with what he or she sees.
Success is recognition, even if it is only your internal valuation. After all in the end you are the only one that is completely a part of your life.
If you are happy, then you have succeeded.
Unfortunately, whilst American traditions hold that the pursuit of happiness is an undeniable right, happiness itself is far from guaranteed.
Without a doubt, the pursuit of happiness can be a frustrating battle of challenging priorities, high prices and lost time.
This reality and real costs give us the illusion that our unhappiness is caused by what we have spent along the way, making you think that if you has less responsibilities, lower expenses and more time, this will result in you being happier.
We then devote much of our lives chasing a level of financial freedom so that we can retire and enjoy the hard earned free time.
We do this expecting to have a lot of free time when we retire and sometimes without a second thought to our own life expectancy.
So What Can You Do?
Well knowing the real secret to happiness will help in abundance.
The secret to real happiness is not about having money or to accumulate money for the future.
I am not saying that both of these are not useful and you could say up to a point they are perfectly sensible, but it is much more important that you identify what it is that you like to do with your time rather than to find ways that you could free it up.
If you don’t know what you want to do but you are sure that it is not what you are doing now.
The best way to approach it is to start to make changes and not just quit what you are doing now.
Start making changes that will make you happier.
