Let me start off by saying that making big decisions are what will determine the direction of our life, and this means that making these decisions deserve our maximum attention and once made we need to make a commitment to that decision.
Making big decisions are not the only things that will shape our lives and we must not make the mistake of caring less about the smaller decisions that we make in our lives because they are just as important.
We make smaller decision more often and we do this almost on autopilot and this is because they are repeated more often, daily and these decisions are what form our habits.
In making smaller decisions we systematically repeated and the idea that these decisions are small is nothing more than an illusion, because these decisions are what shapes our lives because they are at times repeated constantly.
For example if you have the habit to procrastinate and decide to change it to prioritise the things you don’t like and do those things first this will in fact make a huge impact in your life.
Quiet often bad habits are seen as weaknesses that we have.
We also often believe that if we keep working on our strengths rather than working on some of our weaknesses we will gain better results.
This is one of the reasons why we tend to focus and give more importance to our strengths rather than working on our weaknesses.
I am not saying that we should not work with our strengths because in most cases this is a good route to take.
However in many cases this belief can prevent your personal growth.
Bad Habits are Preventing Your Personal Growth
If you keep ignoring some of your weaknesses that are preventing your personal growth and I am sure that you will know which ones are related to you, this will prevent you from moving forwards in that area of your life.
Bad habits have a way of preventing your personal growth and development. Many times we focus on gaining control and power with our external world, but we must first realise that it is more important and essential to gain power and control within ourselves.
Creating New Habits
In order to create new long lasting positive habits you must make an initial investment.
This investment will be your time. You will need to put in the time that is necessary for your new habits to become automatic.
This initial investment of your time does not mean that you have to make it a painful effort in order to change your habits.
It is important to note at this point that the feelings that you associate with the process of changing your habits is very significant because the emotional experience that you connect to the change of habit will make all the difference to the results you are going to get.
It is important that you realise that some habits are going to take longer to change than others so please be patient with yourself.
In getting the best results I would suggest changing one habit at a time, this will make it easier and more effective to change one habit at a time.
Changing one habit at a time will make it a lot easier to focus your energy and get you better results.
You could try this, I found it really effective and that is to imagine yourself have a conversation with the habit you want to change.
A bit like talking to a friend about something that is negatively affecting them and over time your friend will eventually realise that you have their best interest at heart and the change will appear as a natural necessity.
In the same way your bad habit will naturally change.
Changing bad habits for good habits may take time and effort but the rewards can become priceless.
A really great book that I read years ago and thought that it would interest you.
Here’s the tough truth you probably already know.
If you want different results you need to do something different.
Make a definitive decision right now to get different results
