Firstly I want to congratulate you for doing your research before making your final decision.
I want start by stating that I am not an Avon Representative nor am I trying to convince you into join this program.
I will say that I have been an Avon customer on and off for over twenty years and love their products. This is the only link that I have with this company.
I am just writing this review to give you a better understanding of the Avon Program and show you how working with Avon can or can’t make you a full-time or part-time income.
A Little Background History About Avon
In 1959 Avon started operating in the UK and today Avon is one of the top 3 in beauty brands in the country with a large share in the UK beauty market place.
In 2019 Avon celebrated its 60th Anniversary in the UK.
Avon continues to grow their product line and are introducing new and innovative products all the time.
This makes it a better time to get started with this large and growing multi-level marketing program.
Avon can be traced back to 1886 in New York when a door to door salesman David McConnell made a decision to be different and sell perfumes instead of selling books to the New York homes.
Avon was first known as The California Perfume Company. When the company grew Mr McConnell appointed his first General Agent Mrs Albee.
Now this was at the time when women did not have the right to vote.
Mrs Albee became instrumental in establishing the unique sales method that today continues to be Avon’s hallmark.
David McConnell recognised the need to change the companies name from The California Perfume Company to Avon, which was inspired when he visited Stratford upon Avon in England, and in 1939 Avon was born.
Becoming An Independent Avon Representative
Avon like to pride itself in offering their Independent Avon Representatives the best start because they realise that their representatives are the vital link between their company and customers.
They want their representatives to love what they are doing.
- You will be selling high quality products backed with a no quibble guarantee.
- The more customers you serve the more money you could earn, so the amount of money that you could potential make depends on you.
- You can earn up to 25% cash commission by selling products to your friends, family, neighbours and work college by just simply showing them a brochure.
- You will be provided with your own Avon Online Store to reach online customers.
- You will be backed by your sales leader who would be there to help and advise you on how you could potential increase your earnings.
- You have the flexibility to choose the days that you wish to work.
- The more orders you place the times you will get paid.
- Avon Advertise their products on TV so you can benefit from all this national advertising.
How Much Will It Cost to Get Started as An Avon Representative Video
So knowing this got me thinking that almost every mum I know has sat at home at some point wondering how they can make a living from the comfort of their own home and be able to fit it around their family.
I know that I have on many, many occasions. Am I right?
We all want the best of the both worlds when it comes to our family and career.
If you have been a stay at home mum long enough, you have surely thought about selling Avon to earn extra cash.
The burning question that you really need to ask yourself before signing up is:
“Is Selling Avon Worth it?”
Things to Think About Before Signing Up
Before you decide you should know exactly how it all works.
This includes knowing what the real costs are that you will incur.
What is will really take to become successful.
How much effort it is going to take
This is because none of the top Avon representatives that are driving shiny pink convertibles will every stop and tell you these things.
They are more interested in showing you how successful they are to recruit your and in the process making more money for themselves.
In this review I am going to give it to you straight and then you can decide for yourself.
As I mentioned before I have never been an Avon Representative and I will not receive any form of compensation in any way if you decide to sign up and become an Avon Representative. But I have used their products for many years.
I am writing this review so that you will have more options in developing a lifestyle that you want to create.
Signing Up to Sell Avon: Is Selling Avon Going To Be Worth It?
Signing up to sell Avon is a very simple process. You will have Avon reps humping over themselves trying to get you to join their team.
The reason for this is because the most profitable part of Avon is the part of recruiting new representatives.
However you can go straight to Avon.com online which is the easiest way and put your information in and someone will call you back.
You will them make arrangements to meet up and get things started.
During this meeting you will meet your new Avon Leader and he or she will tell you all the wonderful things you can achieve with Avon.
You will not be hearing anything negative at this meeting at all. Which is to be expected.
There will be paperwork to complete and once you have fill out the paperwork which consists of a few pieces of paper and pay your sign-up fee which is approximately $15 at the time of writing this review.
You will then be given you Avon start-up kit.
This kit will include all the information you will need to know about running your Avon business.
The most important part is the real costs to you and your potential earnings
After all you are doing this to make money right?
I will go into more details about that next.
Avon Representative Start Up Kit
Right the start-up kit will include:
- Black Avon Tote
- 10 current campaign brochures
- 10 of the next campaign brochures
Obtaining current brochures have to be ordered and this is why you are given them before they become current.
You will need to be handing out the next brochures before your new order arrives. Every campaign runs for 2 weeks with a total of 26 for the year.
Avon Representative Earnings
When you first get started and with your first campaign as an Avon Representative, you will earn 50% of your sales guaranteed.
This will not include any fixed earnings, this will be capped at 20%. Items such as:
- Clothes
- Jewellery
- Shoes etc…
As long as you sell at least $50 worth of products for your first campaign you will be guaranteed 50% earnings on your next 3 campaigns.
Now after your fourth campaign, your Avon earnings are going to be based on your total sales.
To keep getting this 50% commission on your sales you will have to sell $1,550 worth of products or more at every campaign which lasts for two weeks.
Now I don’t know about you but this is not a simple task.

Avon’s Processing Fee
Now let’s look at Avon’s processing fee.
You will have an Avon receipt book which will have a pre-printed spot for a $0.75 processing fee per order that you place.
This is optional and the Avon Representative’s choice. This is highly recommended to charge this fee as you will incur over and above just the product cost.
Costs Involved In Selling Avon
Selling Avon is like owning your very own small business.
You will pay Avon for the products that you are selling and keep the difference between what you pay Avon and the cost of the products sold.
But like any business you will incur expenses from the day to day running of your business.
You will have to take a look at the other costs of running a business and not just the commission that you are going to make.
You will have to take a look at the bigger picture to running your home based Avon business and all the costs it is going to take to run it and ask yourself the question “Is selling Avon worth it?”.
Avon Campaign Brochures
Now let’s first take a look at the Avon Brochures that you are going to have to have to run your business.
These little brochures that contain Avon products have to be paid for.
You can order them in packs of 10.
The more you purchase the cheaper they will cost you.
Now let’s keep this real, everyone wants to take a look at these brochures and some will even want to take it home with them so they can take a good look at all the lovely products on offer, but in reality not everyone is going to buy something.
Every brochure that you hand out that does not end in an order is going to lose you money.
Avon Representative Brochure Costs
Let’s take a look at the cost of Avon Brochures.
I must first state that these are the prices at the time of publishing this article. But this is to give you an idea of the costs related to sales.
Right.
- 10 brochures – $5.75
- 20 brochures – $7.95
- 30 brochures – $10.20
- 40 brochures – $12.10
- 50 brochures – $13.00
- 60 brochures – $14.25
- 70 brochures -$15.45
- 80 brochures – $16.75
- 90 brochures – $17.90
- 100 brochures – $19.00
11 or more pack of Avon brochures will be $19.00 for the first 10 packs plus $1.30 for each additional pack.
Avon Sample Products
If you are going to be selling foundation, perfumes or lipsticks you are going to need to have samples.
Not having samples of your products could result in more items being returned.
Returned items are going to have to be returned by you and you will have to pay for the shipping costs and this can become costly over time and the shipping costs can vary depending on what you are returning.
You are also going to have to have other items for some of your products to be tested by your potential customers such as sponges, Q-tips or something similar to try out the samples if they do not come in the one-time use size.
Avon Bags
Now you are going to want to look professional when delivering your products to your customers and to do this you are going to need Bags to present your products to your customers.
Now this little bags come at a cost. Fifty 10 pound bags are going to cost around $1.25.
This is just another cost to add to running your Avon business. There are a few more things that you may want to purchase to help your Avon business run smoothly.
Real Avon Representatives Profit Percentage
Avon are constantly recruiting tons of women by advertising their 40% -50% commission rates. Now while this is true when it is related to sales it is not the full story.
In order to gain the 40% commission rate you will need to sell at least $425 worth of Avon products with every campaign and remember that each campaign lasts two weeks.
In looking at the statistics the average person will spend around 425 per order and this means that you will need to have around 17 customers making orders.
Right Let’s Take a Look At a Few Scenarios
I am going to give you some examples and to be fair, I am going to do the examples on the generous side.
In these examples I am not going to include things like gas for your car or mileage to and from customers.
I am also going to assume that you will be making all the delivery yourself so I am not going to include things like hiring people to deliver your orders and put up flyers and things like that.
However if your Avon business grows you may have to consider things like that so that you will be able to handle all your orders because you may not be able to do it all yourself.
So keep this in mind when looking at your figures.
I am going to keep it simple.
Casual Avon Representative Scenario
You order 20 brochures and hand them all out. From these you get 5 order for $25 each.
Your total orders come to $125
You deliver all your orders in the Avon Bags
Your commission on orders is 20% = $25.00
Processing fee collected – $3.75
One sample Fee = $7.95
10 Brochures = $5.75
Avon Bags = $0.63
Total Cost to you = $14.42
Small Business Avon Representative Scenario
You order 50 brochures and hand them out and you get 10 orders for $25.00 each.
Your total orders come to $250.
You deliver all these orders yourself in the Avon delivery bags.
Your commission on orders is 30% = $75.00
Processing fee collected – $7.50
One sample Fee = $6.95
50 Brochures = $13.00
Avon Bags = $1.25
Total Cost to you = $103.70
Medium Size Business Avon Representative Scenario
You order 100 brochures and hand them out and you get 25 orders for $25.00 each.
Your total orders come to $625
You deliver all these orders yourself in Avon bags
Your commission on orders is 40% = 250.00
Processing fee collected – $18.75
One sample Fee = $8.95
100 Brochures = $19.00
Avon Bags = $3.13
Total Cost to you = $237.67
Larger Business Avon Representative Scenario
You order 300 brochures and hand them out and you get 75 orders for $25.00 each.
You total orders come to $1875.
You deliver these orders in Avon bags and deliver them yourself.
Your commission on orders is 50% = $937.50
Processing fee collected – $56.25
One sample Fee = $10.95
300 Brochures = $45.00
Avon Bags = $9.38

Is Selling Avon Worth It?
Can You Make Money Selling Avon?
Now looking at these numbers I can honestly say for me it does not seem worth it.
But I did say for me.
This is because it looks more like a full time gig for part time money and I know of a better way to make money that is working well for me.
But in saying that if you just want a side hustle and know people that are interested in buying Avon products regularly then it may be worth it.
To make selling Avon worth while it may be better to go all in and start your own business selling Avon to make it worth your time.
You will need to build your business up and recruit others below you so that you are start making residual income to become successful.
You will also have to consider hiring people to hand out flyers and make deliveries.
You will also have to learn how you can make use of your website store and promote it so that you can expand your customer base.
You will need to invest in your Avon business with items like:
- Business cards
- Office equipment
- Flyers
- Promotional events
- Renting booths at events
And anything else that you can think of to grow your customer base.
The more customers you have the more money you will make. The higher your commissions.
However in saying this it will also mean that you pay out costs are going to go up such as:
- Gas for your car
- More brochures (remember they only last for two weeks at a time)
- More samples to buy
- Office supplies
- Avon Delivery bags to buy
- Payments to people you hire
The Pros Being an Avon Representative
To good thing is that you will not have to store stock so you will not need to have a storage space.
You will not have to have a physical building as your storefront.
You will have to think of your Avon business as a business and operate as such because if you don’t you are going to lose a lot of money and fail in the long term.
So, Is selling Avon Worth it?
The answer “it can be”
Use A Proven Method Instead
This is a proven method but making money online is not easy, like anything else you will have to put in the hard work before you start seeing the results.
But this is a much better way of making money online….
