Hello and welcome to Smart Laptop Lifestyle,
Today I am going to share with you how to write good product review that will get seen and drive traffic to your products. I will show you how you can use tools that will not only save you time and money but will get you organic traffic and lots of it.
I am mainly going to focus on affiliate marketing because I think that this is the easiest way to a good deal of money online without having to purchase product.
I would also like to say at this point that you do not have to do single product reviews, you can group your products but the choice is yours to make, there is no right or wrong choice here. But I am focusing mainly on an actually single product review, which you can duplicate on a single article if you wish to do so. This will bring your word count up which will make it easier to put together.
So What Makes a Good Product Review?
Writing a good product review needs to be high-quality content and it needs to satisfy both your reader and search engines (SEO). When you can write content that satisfies both you are on your way to getting more traffic and that is what you need to increase sales.
You want Google and the other search engines to find your content with the search-engines crawlers and when this happens it will contribute to you getting significantly higher rankings in the search results.
It is important to know that Google and the other search engines will be paying particular attention to things like structure, scope, uniqueness and value of your product review content.
This is where writing a good product review will pay off big time. So below you will find measurable factors they you should always think about when you write your affiliate product review.
1. The Scope
When you are writing you product review you should always make sure its scope for the product that you are writing about. You should NEVER just gloss over things like product descriptions but in saying that you do not want to write an essay either.
Today many people are conditioned to the 140 word rule, thanks to twitter and the search engines what to know exactly what you are writing about so the best way will be to add illustrative images, charts and or spreadsheets, wherever possible and then you could put the product description in bullet points, but make sure that your images match up to your content.
You do not want too many images and not enough content, a nice healthy mix will work wonders. Another point is to remember that most people process visual content more easily than text.
2. The Length of your Review
The length of your product review is a little more complicated, because the length will differ depending on the overall scope as discussed above and it will also depend on the point you are trying to get across to your audience.
But thinking about search engines and the role that they play in getting your content ranked you product review should not be too short because it will be difficult for them to find value in your content. So from the point of search engines (SEO) I would suggest that you should write and minimum of 300 – 500 words.
I would say that you can write as much as you want that is over the 500 words and there is not upper limited, but I would say that any words over say about 700 will only be read by few of your website visitors so it is good to be a little creative when writing by adding some bullet points, such as in product descriptions and when wanting to highlight certain points. To be honest many of your readers will mainly read the bullet points so make them detailed and you will be on the right track.
And you product review by adding a comprehensive conclusion. This is another strong point because many of your visitors will read your conclusion in depth, so you can take this time to highlight any key product details and this way you will satisfy two sets of readers, one set will just want to read the product descriptions and want to find all they need in this section quickly and the second set of people will want to find out what you think and will want to read in depth a detailed review.
3. Relevance of your Product Review
Keeping your product review relevant is an important part of affiliate marketing. You will need to take a look at your review and ask yourself if you need to add any additional information or if you have multiple products, are there any products that may need to be replaced or removed.
For example there may be a newer model or version of a particular product. So I would say every three to four months take a look at your product reviews and make any relevant changes if needed.
4. Quality of Your Content
When you are writing your product review it is important that you have quality content and by quality content I mean that you not only have good spelling and grammar, but also check the readability of your content.
There are some tools that you may find very useful to use. I find them priceless and have helped me not only write better content but get rank in google with a week and sometimes in hours of publishing. You can check out my article on writing in site content here.
A really good tip is to keep your sentences and paragraphs short and this will also be seen favourably by the search engines.
5. Structure of your Product Review
The aim of your content is to make it an enjoyable reading experience for your audience and by making it an easy to scan article, whilst providing key information. It is not that hard to do and with practice it will become easier.
- Subheading
- Paragraphs – should be no more than three to seven lines long
- Tables / images /informational images
- Meaningful conclusion
These are all finishing touches which will provide a nice environment for your visitors and a richer website.
6. Unique Content
Having unique content is a must, because directly copying or rewording content is a big no no. Copying content will not help you to grow in your business. Your readers will soon pick up on this and worse the search engines will see it as duplicate content and will punish your site by lowering your ranking.
A tip here is that if you have the product that you are reviewing, use your own images. Using your own images will really help in building trust between yourself and your visitors.
I use a tool called Site Content which checks all my content for uniqueness before publishing and you can review my article on site content here.
7. Internal Linking
This is a tip that really helped me, to get indexed into Google and other search engines, and that is internal linking.
Internal Linking is when you link other pages on your website that are relevant to your product review or that will complement it. In internal linking you should always let your readers know what the relationships are between the pages being linked.
This will also help the search engine crawlers know that you have more important content on your website.
8. External Links
Using external links is a must for affiliate marketing because this is our way to get our visitors to the products that we are introducing them to. Many affiliate marketers have concerns about external links and how to use them more effectively. First I must say that the search engines will see this as you add value to your users.
I would say that it is important to set your external links to open in a new tab so that you do not lose your visitors when they click on the link.
Conclusion
In following these eight tips listed above you are on your way to writing a very successful product review. Also you are not looking for perfection because then your product review will never be good enough, you just want to get the job done and over time you will get better. The only other things that I can suggest is that you read my other articles that will enhance what you have learned here.

Hello Jennifer,
Thanks so much for the practical tips and guidelines on how to write good quality reviews. It seems that the art of writing or use of grammatically correct language whether it is written or a video format, has been largely forgotten or lost in our modern age.
Good quality content takes time and effort to produce and many people are simply into the short term gains which results in compromised content quality in favour of the mass production poor quality content. I think your article is a good basis for the inexperience would-be product reviewer that is looking at some practical tips on what points need to be covered and how best to structure a review of a product.
Thanks for a well structured article that provided some really good food for thought.

Hi Rich
Thank you for your visit and comment, much appreciated
Yes you are right I have focused on beginners to writing product reviews and also as a reminder to those that have been writing a while without success.
Thank you for your feedback
Jennifer
Yes, I agree to what you shared but would like to add some additional points. I would say it is important to really do a thorough research on each product before even starting any review – suggest to assess more than 10 online articles if one didn’t personally try out the product. Hope this small comment of mine can add positively to your post.
Hi Florence
Thank you for your visit and comment much appreciated.
Thank you also for your suggestion.
Many thanks
Jennifer
That was a really well written and informative article! The way you have written and laid out your content, is exactly what you’re talking about in this article about how to craft a well written post.
Another thing to mention, when reviewing a few different products, to keep it between 3-5 different products, and 7 being the absolute max. If you provide too many options, people will be overwhelmed and buy nothing.
But awesome information! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Nicki
Thank you for your visit and comment much appreciated.
Yes I agree about the product review with 3 – 5 different Products and 7 being the max.
In saying this I have know many product reviewers have as much as 20 products and are doing very well with sales.
It just depends on the approach. But for beginners less is more.
Many thanks for your support
Jennifer
Thanks for sharing these tips. Something that I myself should be reminded about.
Writing a review is crucial, so you have to be precise and bias as much as possible. Long article or not you have to make sure that you provided your readers the information they need to know about the product.
I think my take away from your post is the use of internal and external links.
Thanks again and wishing you success.
Hi Mina
Thank you for your visit and comment much appreciated.
Yes I found these tips priceless and my product reviews are indexed much quicker in the search engines.
The internal and external links go a long way in getting noticed and the internal link show that you have more important information on your website.
Many thanks
