Blogging can be a really interesting hobby to have.
A blog that you can have as an online journal, is a lovely place where you can post exactly what is on your mind.
Whilst there are many bloggers that couldn’t care less if anyone read their posts, there are many people that are actively trying to gain more readers.
Some advertisers are offering money for blogs that get high amounts of traffic and this makes learning how to blog better an important task.

6 Tips to Help You Blog Better
1. Use a Casual Conversational Tone
The most interesting blogs are the one that are not written with the use of the formal grammar rules.
To be honest using a formal tone in blogs can come across quite boring and many readers are not going to want to read through what feels like snobbish text.
If you want to gain popularity with your bog and become successful at it, then consider writing is a more casual tone.
Think of writing as if you are having a conversation with a friend. Write exactly the way that you would talk to them. Not the way you are supposed to talk, the way you actually speak.
Be yourself, if you use slang when you speak then write that way.
Writing this way may not be considered “proper”, but this is you and don’t apologise for being you.
This is a great way for your blog to reach a wide variety of viewers.
By using humour and other personality characteristics in your writing will make people want to keep coming back to read your newest post entries.
2. Don’t Overdo It
Keeping your blog post short will help you retain any interested viewers.
Many people don’t want to spend a massive amount of time reading text on the web. If they wanted to read a novel, they would just do that.
Try to stick to the point and keep it short.
A blog that is more than 500 or 700 words are at times too much.
If you need to carry on with the topic, then consider creating another post that finishes your point.
Although this is really creating one long post, the break in the text will help your readers from become bored.
In saying this if your blog post requires more information to make it whole then carry on until the natural end, such as informational blog posts or how to blog posts.
You should also have varied post length on your blog site, so you can mix it up a bit. Some short and some longer as required.
You can play around with this and even get a little creative. By this I mean that depending on your niche you could create a mini series of blogs and end each section with something like to be continued to add a little drama to it.
3. Never Add Unrelated Advertise
Having a blog is a great place to advertise products and or services and many blogger use this space to do this.
This can be a really cheap way to get your work out there.
However, this can really be annoying to your readers and a quick way for them to leave your blog without even reading what you have written and we don’t want to scare our readers away.
Consider doing your advertising in a more subtle way.
A good way to get around this is to actually write a blog post about the product or service and add a link to the product or service page.
4. Check Your Spelling
Although the tone of your blog should be kept casual you should still edit your work.
This is a ways to be casual without being sloppy.
You should always check your spelling before you submit your blog post.
If you post are sloppy and full of spelling mistakes, your readers will think that you are not educated and therefore will not take what you are saying seriously.
I use a software called SiteContent
But if your blogging software does not come with any spell check features, you can always create your post on your computers desktop and use the spell check there.
Then you can cut and paste your edited blog post onto your blog, this will help a lot to minimise errors.
I tend to write all my work on my laptop desktop so that I have copies of everything that I post also on my laptop. So I can double spell check to minimise any errors. I say minimise because there is always a small chance that something is missed.
5. Be Versatile
If you want to increase your reach you don’t need to carry out endless advertising.
But you will need to be versatile with your post topics.
When you have a blog that covers only one type of thing will become popular with one specific target audience. This is great if this is your aim for your blog.
However if you want to reach more people you are going to want to have a broader niche such as;
- Current affairs,
- Music
- Books
- Other hot and trending topics
This way you will be able to change up your topics and draw more people in as you will show up in the search engines for those related topics.
6. Post Regularly
When people become fans of your blog they will more than likely want to see new posts from you every few days. Some will only look once a week.
But if you want to keep your blog fresh and interesting you will need to post often.
Posting often can take little time if you keep your post short and sweet.
This is a great way to keep things new and exciting for your readers.
They will be waiting for your new posts and will continue logging on as long as you provide them with new and interesting information.
