In 2016 Media.net was sold to a Chinese consortium that would be eventually owned by Miteno Communication Technology, a Chinese Technology conglomerate.
90% of their revenue comes from the U.S.A. It is now one of the top 5 largest Ad technology companies in the world.
How Does Media.net Work?
Media.net creates website ads and the technology auto-learns and optimise to display the most relevant ads and offers and they do this in a format that balance out the user experience and revenue.
They are similar to Google Adsense.
As a publisher, the ads that you will place on your website are mainly from companies advertising on the Being and Yahoo network.
The Media.net ad units can be placed on your website with the use of a short snippet ad code.
Publishers earn money depending on the ad type such as:
- CPC (cost per click)
- CPA (cost per action)
- CPL (cost per lead)
- CPM (cost per thousand)
Features of Media.net
Media.net’s claim to fame is that they are the original creator of the D2S, which is a display-to-search format that will identify your users search intent by displaying relevant search keywords, which is a pretty good tool to have.
There other features include:
- Custom sizes and designs
- Dedicated account manager
- Automatically displays the types of ads that are likely to perform the best on your website.
- Multiple formats including contextual ads, native ads, video ads and standard IAB units without any additional code.
These are pretty impressive and exciting feature that would have any publisher jumping at the chance to work with Media.net.
But I would like to stress at this point that they are not the only fish in the sea when it comes to this kind of service and remember that you have many other choices when it comes to adding another revenue stream to your online business.

To be honest with you it is difficult to say how much money you could make with Media.net. This is because you can potentially earn commissions through a number of different ad formats such as:

- CPM (cost per thousand)
When you are setting up your account, you can also activate a demand sources which means that advertisers will bid for spots on your website and there you could earn even more money.
When I carried out my research I could not actually find information that provided actual rates.

Payment to publishers are paid 30 days after the previous month. The minimum payment payout is $100 payment are made either by wire transfer or Payoneer Only.

To get started with Media.net you will need to provide you’re:
- Website name
- Email address
- Phone number
You will then be contacted by an account manager.
The other requirements included are:
- You must be 18 years old or older
- Must have a website
- Most of your traffic must come from the UK, USA and or Canada
- Your content is written in English
- You need to be getting some amount of traffic but there is no minimum stated
- You need to provide true and accurate information
- Your website must not contain any adult, pornographic or illegal content and must not promote hate, violence or sale of prescription drugs.
- You will be agreeing to give Media.net access to your website’s index and cache properties and network properties.
- In accordance with their terms and condition you agree to allow Media.net to use your name and logo in presentations, marketing materials and collasterals on their website and customer lists and or any financial reports.
Some of these requirements may appear a little bit restrictive, but if you do get rejected you can still make money with your website by joining other similar networks such as:

- Ezoic
- Traffic Jam media

Your account manager will be the first person that you will go to for support. You can also contact support through the email address that you will find on their contact page.
I have found that sometimes I have had to contact twice to get a response but normally the response is within a couple of days.
Media.net Complaints
Okay so I have shown you the features of Media.net and how they work, so know it is time to show you what I have noticed with this service whilst using them.
If You Have More Than One Website
So if you have more than one website that you want to use the services of Media.net you will have to sign up every website manually and separately and wait to see if they are accepted.
Traffic Restrictions
Now because the traffic to your website must be mainly sourced from United Kingdom, U.S.A. and or Canada. This means that if you have traffic from outside of these areas they are just left out in the cold. On a positive note you could look at it as you are gain more traffic from these areas.
English Only
Media.net only accepts English language websites and this is due to their traffic restrictions mentioned above. This is quite restrictive.
Referral Programs, Bonuses, Promotions are Discretionary
Media.net has a referral program, but it is only available to selected publishers at the sole discretion of the company. They also run promotions and other offers that are again only available to select publishers.
To be honest with this one, I have found that if you wait until you have used there services for a while say 3 to 6 months and then apply for the referral program you really should not have a problem.
Limited Payment Options
The only available payment options are through wire transfer and Payoneer. So if you were hoping for another payment option such as PayPal, at the present time you are out of luck.
I have used Payoneer with this service and it is not that bad, it is just another payment system.
Media.net as No BBB Listing
Now this got my attention because the company was founded in New York in 2010 so this got me thinking why there was not Better Business Bureau listing.
I found similar named companies but not this one, so if you rely on the BBB to help you find legitimate companies to work with, there is not information to guide you here.
Should You Join Media.net?
Well it comes to the question of should you join Media.net and the main answer is how you feel out the information I have shared with you.
I would say that Media.net is a legitimate company but the high requirements and restrictions may make it difficult for some publishers to join.
